Overseas Travel Fellowships Awarded to Seven Graduating Seniors
Seven graduating seniors have been awarded Shaw, Sheldon, and
Trustman fellowships for the pursuit of purposeful and personally
significant travel in the year after graduation.
Henry Russell Shaw Fellowships, which are awarded to men for projects
in Europe, were granted to: Daniel Epstein, who will observe the
upcoming elections in Russia; Maxwell Krohn, who will explore the
literary and musical culture of Ireland; and James Lenhart, who
will explore how medieval English towns function in the modern context.
Frederick Sheldon Prize Fellowships, which support purposeful travel
overseas, were granted to: Eleanor Pries, who will pursue urban
design studies in Rome and elsewhere in Italy; Elena Schneider,
who will investigate the significance of pilgrimages in Spain and Central
America; and Gad Soffer, who will pursue a worldwide
geographical expedition to explore key moments in the earth's
history.
The Benjamin A. Trustman Fellowship, which supports purposeful travel
overseas, was awarded to Dana Bennett, who will work with a
human rights organization in the Gambia.
Each fellowship provides a stipend of $11,000. The seven recipients
were chosen from a group of 14 finalists selected for interviews from
among 69 candidates; each candidate in the College competition must be
formally nominated by his or her house.
