Graduate student wins science fellowship

John J. Rusnak Jr., a first-year Ph.D. student in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has been selected by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association to receive a $25,000 Graduate Student Fellowship for his studies toward a doctoral degree in computer science.

Rusnak received the fellowship award in a brief ceremony on Wednesday, April 28, in Pierce Hall.

Lehner Receives Book Award for Work on Pyramids

Mark Lehner, director of the Giza Plateau Mapping Project sponsored by Harvard's Semitic Museum, received the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) Book Award during the 64th annual meeting of the SAA at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, in March.

The SAA Book Award is presented each year to the author of a book published within the preceding three years that had or is expected to have a major impact on the direction and character of archaeological research. Lehner received the Award for his book, The Complete Pyramids.

Trier Receives Award for Lifetime Contribution

Jerry S. Trier, professor of medicine emeritus .at the Medical School and senior physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital, is the recipient of the Governing Board of the American Gastroenterological Association's (AGA) 1999 Julius Friedenwald Medal. The Medal, endowed in 1940 by AGA co-founder Julius Friedenwald, is the society's highest formal recognition and is awarded to an individual for a lifetime contribution to the field of gastroenterology.

A member of the AGA since 1965, Trier will be presented the Medal in May at Digestive Disease Week, the largest international conference devoted to the science and practice of gastroenterology.

Fisher Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Roger Fisher of the Law School is the recipient of the 1999 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Civil Trial Mediators.

Fisher is the author of two widely recognized and best-selling books on negotiation, Getting to Yes .and Getting Together. .Fisher was appointed as a lecturer by Harvard Law School in 1958; professor in 1960; and Williston Professor in 1976. He has been director of the Harvard Negotiation Project since 1980 and has served as an adviser and strategist in international disputes.

The awards will be presented at the College's annual awards banquet at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, on May 1.
