Student Dismissed for Rape

Joshua M. Elster '00, convicted by the Middlesex County Court in September 1998 of raping and assaulting another Harvard student, was dismissed from Harvard College by vote of the Faculty on April 13. Dismissal is the most severe penalty meted out by the Faculty in modern times and effectively severs Elster's ties to the College.
