Challenge Grant Program Assists Libraries

An exciting element of the LDI is a challenge grant program designed to encourage innovation and also to ensure broad faculty representation in the LDI. The Harvard University Library established a challenge grant program that provides assistance to Harvard libraries or museums for their digital projects. The grant program will be administered twice a year for the duration of the Initiative. Five projects were funded in summer 1998 [see sidebar], and proposals are being solicited for a second round of project funding.

Eligible projects will 1) digitize materials that have not been previously accessible, 2) include integration of these materials into Harvard's digital collections, and 3) utilize the LDI infrastructure components. Details about the kinds of projects that are eligible are available at:
