Student Event Entertains 200+ With Food and Performances
By Soo Ryun Kwon '02
With more than 200 people in attendance, the first-ever
Korean Culture Banquet on Saturday, March 13, was one of Harvard-
Radcliffe Korean Association's (KA) most successful events. KA
members served Korean food, complete with chapchae,
bulgogi, and mandu, and over 30 performers presented
eight diverse acts. The performances included traditional fan
dancing, a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, and a string quartet. Daniel
Chung '00 read a comical piece on family life, and Jung Eun Oh
'00 sang Sahrang and Amazing Grace
The banquet was the final event for the outgoing KA
executive board, headed by Thomas Ryou '00 and Diana Kim
'00 and included the inauguration of the new executive board
with president Christina Yoon '01. KA elections were held on
March 3, 1999 and eight students were elected to the executive
board at that time.
KA, a group comprised of the Korean Students Association
(KSA) and Korean Americans for Culture and Community (KACC),
aims to build a strong sense of community among Koreans/Korean
Americans on campus as well as to promote awareness about Korean
culture. The Korean Association also serves as an umbrella
organization for Yisei Magazine, Chunsa Dance Troupe, and
P'oongmul Drum Troupe.
