Cultural Rhythms Celebration To Feature Will Smith

Will Smith, distinguished actor, musician, and producer, will be the guest of
honor at "Cultural Rhythms," the annual Harvard Foundation
Cultural Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 20. Smith will receive an award for his
"Outstanding Contributions to American Performing Arts and
Intercultural Relations."
Smith began his career in the music industry in high school, going on to
record several platinum and multi-platinum albums as part of the rap duo DJ
Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. He has won two Grammys and three American
Music Awards. Smith has also established a successful acting career in both
television and film; his hit sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, ran for six
seasons on NBC. He has starred in such feature films as Independence
Day, Men in Black, and Enemy of the State. Smith is also known
for his humanitarian work through the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation.
The event, which features musical, dance, and other performances as well
as a food festival, is designed to celebrate the University's rich cultural
community and is open to the Harvard University community. Student
performances and the award ceremony will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at
Sanders Theatre; the food festival and more student performances will take
place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Science Center.
A Harvard I.D. will be required to purchase tickets, which are $5 each, or $1
for children. Tickets are available at Sanders Theatre Box Office and BosTix at
Harvard.
