HARVARD GAZETTE ARCHIVES Bringing Graduate Students Together Is Goal of Council
The Harvard Graduate Council (HGC) plans to restructure itself this term as well as offer a roster of activities, including this weekend's Valentine's dance party. The HGC, comprised of representatives from Harvard's 11 graduate schools, is dedicated to addressing the concerns and improving the quality of life of the graduate student population. This year, the council has been focused on restructuring the organization in an effort to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness on campus. Both the bylaws and constitution of the organization have been rewritten to address these concerns, and are scheduled to be ratified by the council at the next meeting, to be held March 1. The modifications reflect the desire of the members to have a more cohesive organization that can better facilitate handling the needs of a unified graduate student body. Principal issues currently being addressed include developing a more unified calendar among the graduate schools, developing intramural leagues for graduate students, and ensuring graduate student representation on University committees. Events planned for this term will include the Fifth Annual Fun Run, with proceeds benefiting Outdoor Explorations, an organization that coordinates adventure trips and other programs for people with disabilities, and numerous social activities aimed at providing inter-School interaction. The Council will kick off the term with a Valentine's Day party on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 9 p.m. until closing at Club Joy on 533 Washington St. (near Downtown Crossing), Boston. Harvard graduate students with an I.D. will be admitted for $7 before 11 p.m. For more information about becoming involved with the Harvard Graduate Council, contact Greg Foster, HGC president, at jfoster@mba1999.hbs.edu.
