Olin Center Receives $6M Grant

The John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics, and Business at the Law School has been awarded a four-year, $6 million grant by its longtime sponsor -- the John M. Olin Foundation.

Steven Shavell, director, Olin Center for Law, Economics, and Business at the Law School.
The grant represents one of the largest gifts in the history of the Law School, and will enable the Center to expand its activities considerably.

The Center was established in 1985 by Professor Steven Shavell, who is its director. One of the Center's major goals is to promote teaching of economic analysis of law, which it does through its support of student fellowship programs, seminars and courses, and curriculum development. The Center's other goal is to foster faculty research. This objective is accomplished through a broad array of activities, including sponsoring conferences, research seminars, and a discussion paper series. The grant will also benefit the Center's Program on Empirical Legal Studies, which is led by Professor Kip Viscusi, John F. Cogan Professor of Law.
