Office for Technology and Trademark Licensing relocates

The Office for Technology and Trademark Licensing is relocating to Holyoke Center, Suite 727, 1350 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge. The new address became effective Jan. 25. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses remain the same. For further information, call 495-3067.

Grants for research on suicide-related issues offered

The Harvard Suicide Research Committee has been awarded a two-year institutional grant by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention -- for two (or three) positions for young investigators for $15,000 (or $10,000) per year for part-time research projects. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate: 1) a research mentor, 2) previous relevant experience, and 3) funding for the remainder of their time. Send a letter of interest, CV, one- or two-page abstract of research idea, and preliminary budget to: Professor Gil Noam, 601 Larsen Hall, Harvard Graduate School of Education, Cambridge, MA 02138, or Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, HRI Trauma Center, 227 Babcock St., Brookline, MA 02146. The deadline for applications is March 1.

Countway Department To Close During Move

Beginning in mid-March, the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine's Rare Books & Special Collections Department will be moving into its newly renovated quarters and will be closed to the public for the duration of the move, which will last approximately two months: March 15 to May 17.

Improvements will include a new reading room, staff offices, processing and exhibit preparation areas, a reception area, a seminar room, research rooms, and expanded exhibit and stack areas.

The full Countway Library renovation will be completed in 2000.

Graduate Fellowship in Ethics available for 1999- 2000

Applications for 1999-2000 Graduate Fellowships in Ethics are invited from Harvard graduate students who are writing dissertations or are engaged in major research on topics in practical ethics. The deadline is Thursday, Feb. 11. Awards to be Funded by the Reischauer Institute

The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies will fund up to two conference fee awards to students attending the Japan- America Student Conference this summer. The award deadline is Feb. 1. Grants available for student arts projects

The Office for the Arts has made grants available for undergraduate projects that encourage students' own original, creative work, or work showing an original, creative approach to artistic traditions. The projects should combine high artistic merit, artistic originality and experimentation, and involvement of -- and exposure to -- the maximum number of undergraduates. Amounts range from $50 to $1,000. Applications are available at the Office for the Arts, 74 Mt. Auburn St., and are due Feb. 3 for projects to take place during ARTS FIRST '99 and April 22 for projects occurring in the fall semester, 1999.

Winter teaching orientation to be held

The Derek Bok Center's Winter Teaching Orientation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on the third floor of the Science Center. The program will feature presentations for both new and experienced teachers. Meals will be provided for all teaching fellows and faculty who register by e-mailing bokcenter@fas.harvard.edu or calling 495-4869.
