Hart Writes on Economic Policy
David M. Hart, assistant professor of public policy at the Kennedy School of Government, has written a new book titled Forged Consensus: Science, Technology, and Economic Policy in the United States, 1921-1953. In the book, published by Princeton University Press, Hart challenges the creation myth of post-World War II federal science and technology policy.
Dental School Fellow Wins Research Award
Athanasios I. Zavras, research fellow in oral health policy and epidemiology at the School of Dental Medicine, was awarded the Research in Prevention Award from the International Association of Dental Research. The award was presented in recognition of scientific excellence in the area of prevention, during the association's annual meeting in Nice, France. Zavras' work deals with the molecular epidemiology of oral and pharyngeal cancer.
Jeffrey Sachs Receives Honorary Degree
Jeffrey D. Sachs, Galen L. Stone Professor of International Trade at the Kennedy School of Government, received an honorary Doctor of Social Sciences degree from Lingnan College, Hong Kong, earlier this month.
Miller Honored by American Bar Association
The American Bar Association's (ABA) Board of Governors honored Arthur R. Miller, Bruce Bromley Professor of Law at the Law School, for his efforts to advance public awareness and knowledge of the law. Miller received special recognition at the annual Silver Gavel luncheon held during this year's ABA annual convention in Toronto.
The ABA has given Silver Gavel awards since 1958 to call attention to excellent work in the arts and the media that increases the American public's understanding of the law and the legal system. Miller has won several Gavel awards for specific projects.
Jonas, Head of MCZ Library, To Step Down
Eva Jonas, librarian of the Museum of Comparative Zoology since 1978, will retire in the spring of 1999. Jonas played a key role in modernizing the MCZ and transforming it into one of the world's foremost natural history libraries. A committee has been formed to undertake a national search for Jonas' successor.
Sophomore Performs in Play
Jennifer Beth Glick is starring as Edna Arkins in The Good Times Are Killing Me at the Wheelock Family Theatre in Boston, through Nov. 29. Glick is a government concentrator and sings with the Radcliffe Pitches.
