Law School Celebrates Women
Law School marks 45th anniversary of first women grads
The Law School will mark the 45th anniversary of its first class of women graduates by hosting Celebration 45, an alumnae reunion and conference, from Nov. 13-15, on campus in Cambridge.
Among the participants are the following:
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg '59, associate justice, U.S. Supreme Court
- Janet Reno '63, U.S. attorney general (invited)
- Jane Harman '69, U.S. representative (D-Calif.)
- Lani Guinier, one of the Law School's newest faculty members
- Sheila James Kuehl '78, California State Assembly member
- Jamie Gorelick '75, vice chair, Fannie Mae Corp.
- Susan Estrich '77, University of Southern California Law Center professor
- Elizabeth Holtzman '65, Herrick Feinstein in New York
- Charlotte Armstrong '53, president, Harvard College Board of Overseers
- Ruth Abrams '56, associate justice, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
Scheduled panel discussions include the following:
- "Mothers and Fathers, Daughters and Sons: A Celebration of Two Generations of Harvard Lawyers"
- "The First Fifteen - Members of the Classes of 1953-68"
- "The Middle Fifteen - Members of the Classes of 1969-1984"
- "The Recent Fifteen - Members of the Classes of 1985-2000+"
Since the first Harvard Law School women received their law degrees in 1953, more than 5,000 women have graduated from the School.
