Reischauer Institute seeks applicants for
fellowships
The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies is offering
graduate and undergraduate student fellowship support and summer research
travel funding in the field of Japanese studies.
The fellowships include: the Harvard Postdoctoral Fellowships in
Japanese Studies for 1999-00; Supplementary Dissertation Grants for
1999-00; Dissertation Production Grants; Reischauer Institute Summer
Research Grants for Graduate Students for 1999; Reischauer Institute
Undergraduate Summer Travel Grants for 1999; the Henry Rosovsky
Undergraduate Summer Travel Research Grant for 1999; and Noma-Reischauer
Prizes in Japanese Studies.

Houghton Library to sell holiday cards
The Department of Printing and Graphic Arts of the Houghton
Library, the rare book and manuscript library, has an assortment of
Christmas and holiday cards for sale this season. The cards reproduce rare
material from the collection, ranging from early manuscript illuminations
to contemporary digital designs.
The generously sized cards are blank inside and are accompanied by
an envelope. They are sold in packages of 10, and cost $12.50 for the new
set and $6 for an assortment of 10 past designs. The cards are available
in the lobby of the Houghton Library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nathans to give talk on college life and parents
A lunchtime talk on ŇKeeping in Touch/Letting Go: Enjoying Your
ChildŐs College YearsÓ will be given by Elizabeth Studley Nathans, Dean of
Freshmen, at noon on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 2 Brattle Square (second
floor), Cambridge. The brown-bag lunch talk is sponsored by the Office of
Work and Family. Nathans will talk about the ways in which sons and
daughters negotiate the challenges of college life. To register, call
