Retsinas Elected to Habitat for Humanity Board

Nicolas P. Retsinas, director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies, was elected to the board of directors of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) at their Oct. 17 meeting. Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organization that builds and rehabilitates houses for families in need. Since its inception in 1976, HFHI has built and rehabilitated 70,000 homes on its way to its goal of 100,000 homes by the year 2000.

Four Faculty Members Named AAAS Fellows

Four faculty members have been named fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), based on their efforts toward advancing science or fostering applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.

The new fellows are Steven R. Gullans, associate professor of medicine; A.W. Crompton, Fisher Professor of Natural History; Carl N. Morris, professor of health care policy and statistics; and Richard M. Losick, Maria Moors Cabot Professor of Biology. The fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a rosette pin (representing science and engineering) on Jan. 23 at the Fellows forum during the 1999 AAAS Annual Meeting in Anaheim, Calif.

Founded in 1848, the AAAS represents the world's largest federation of scientists and has more than 144,000 individual members.

Wilson Selected in Magazine Feature

Radcliffe College President Linda S. Wilson appears in the photographic portfolio of the "most influential women in America" featured in the November issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

Nearly 200 women were photographed for the 72-page portfolio of women who, according to the magazine, "have come to wield uncommon power and influence in the U.S." The women hail from various fields, including politics, finance, publishing, entertainment, media, the arts, education, literature, sports, society, the armed forces, and fashion.

Patterson Named Chair of Political Science Association

Tom Patterson, Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at the Kennedy School, has been selected as chair for the Political Communication Section of the American Political Science Association for the coming year.
