Students Win First Place in Regional Science Contest
Three generations of Harvard professors and students were awarded prizes
last weekend at the annual meeting of the History of Science Society in
Kansas City.
Gerald Holton, Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics and Professor of the
History of Science Emeritus, was awarded the prize for Excellence
in the Teaching of the History of Science. Peter Galison, Mallinckrodt Professor
of the History of Science and of Physics, who was Holton's student, received
the Pfizer Prize, for his book Image and Logic.
A student of Galison's, Michael Goldin, was awarded the Schuman Prize,
for the best graduate student essay submitted to the society.
"It's very rare," Holton said. "These things happen by
accident, but it's very satisfying when it does."
