Harvard Field Hockey Sparked by Five-Game Winning
Streak
With two games this week against teams ranked in the top-10, Harvard
Field Hockey, currently in the midst of a five-game winning streak, is looking
forward to continue its recent success.
The Crimson scored three wins last week, due largely to the stellar play
of senior co-captain Judy Collins. Collins tallied seven goals and one assist
to pace Harvard. In a 3-1 victory over New Hampshire on Oct. 13, Collins
netted two goals, breaking the Harvard career records for goals and points
that were previously held by Kate Martin '83.
"I didn't really think about it too much," said Collins. "I
knew that I had a chance of breaking it, but now I just want the team to
keep winning."
On Friday, in a roller coaster ride of a game, Collins tallied three
goals and one assist to lead Harvard to a 6-3 victory.
The Crimson finished the week with a 1-0 win over Stanford. Though the
Cardinals controlled most of the game, Harvard managed to squeak out a win
as freshman forward Katharine Burrage scored her second goal of the season.
This week, two tough road games test the Crimson's recent success. After
making the short trip to Chestnut Hill on Oct. 21 to face the 10th ranked
Boston College Eagles, the Crimson faces its toughest test of the year on
Saturday -- a matchup with third-ranked Princeton that could determine the
Ivy League title.
"We are playing with a lot of confidence right now," said Collins.
"This week is so crucial for us. We know that we are going into Princeton
as an underdog, but we have nothing to lose. We're going to go all out and
whatever happens, happens."
