Harvard-Yenching Institute Names Fellows
The Harvard-Yenching Institute has named its fellowship recipients for
academic year 1998-99. The following Visiting Scholars were selected from
a pool of candidates nominated by major universities in Asia by a committee
of Harvard faculty chaired by Emeritus Professor of Law Arthur von
Mehren. They will conduct independent research in the humanities and social
sciences at Harvard.

in Asia. They will spend the year conducting research necessary for the

In addition to those listed above, the Institute supports 44 Ph.D. candidates
at Harvard and other universities such as Columbia, UCLA, Berkeley, London
School of Economics, and University of Cambridge.
The Yenching Institute was founded in 1928 with funding provided by the
estate of Charles M. Hall, and is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to the
advancement of higher education in the humanities and social sciences in
East and Southeast Asia.
