'Evening with Champions' Prepares to Take the Ice
Top World and Olympic skaters will join perennial host Paul Wylie in
supporting the Jimmy Fund when they perform in the 29th
annual "An Evening with Champions" on Oct. 23 through 25.
The 1998 event, America's premier figure skating exhibition, is expected
to exceed $2 million in total contributions to cancer care and research
through the Jimmy Fund. Show-stopping performances are expected from 1998
World Champions and Olympic Silver Medalists Elena Bereshnaia and Anton
Sikhardulidze. They will be joined by fellow 1998 World Champion Alexei
Yagudin. As a special
treat for ice skating fans, An Evening with Champions is thrilled to
host the world premier of the newly formed dance team of Maya Usova (1994
Olympic Silver Medalist) and Evgeny Petrov (1994 and 1998 Olympic Gold Medalist).
Wylie, the 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist (and Harvard graduate), will
be joined by an impressive slate of amateur and professional talent, including
Oksana Baiul, the 1994 Ladies Gold Medalist, who will skate in the Friday
and Saturday evening performances.
A Boston tradition organized by Harvard's Eliot House since 1970, An
Evening with Champions will take place at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center
with performances scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday
Oct. 24, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Founded in 1948 to raise funds for patient care and the fight against
children's cancer, the Jimmy Fund supports the search for new cancer treatments
at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which is recognized by the National Cancer
Institute as one of the world's leaders in cancer care and research.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and senior citizens and
