East Asia series presents "China's New 'Democracy Wall'"
The Fairbank Center for East Asian Research will present a lecture on "China's New 'Democracy Wall'" given by He Xintong, wife of Xu Wenli, a prominent pro-democracy activist, as part of its East Asia Colloquia Series. The event will take place on Thursday, May 28, at 12:15 p.m. in Coolidge Hall, Seminar Room 2.
Crimson Key releases new edition of guidebook
The Crimson Key Society has just completed its fiftieth year commemorative edition of the Guidebook to Harvard University. The book includes historical background and anecdotes about the University as well as information on many buildings throughout the Cambridge campus. Thus, it can serve as both a general source of information, as well as a personal walking tour of the campus. The history dates as far back as the founding of the University, in 1636, to the story of the John Harvard Statue and "the three lies."
The books are available for $10 at the Harvard Events & Information Center in the Holoyoke Center Arcade.
Conference in Malaysia brings together university students
The student organization Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) will hold its Seventh Annual International Youth Leadership Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In light of the recent Asian financial crisis, 250 university students from top academic institutions in East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, North America, and Europe will meet from May 28 to May 31 at the Putra World Trade Center. The conference is co-hosted by Universiti Putra Malaysia and the International Malaysia Forum, and is working in cooperation with the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia (ISIS).
"Asia in Transition: Beyond the Miracle" is the theme of the conference and will include topics such as "Reevaluating Financial Globalization," "Legal and Political Reform in Asia," and "Changing Roles for ASEAN in the 21st Century." The agenda will also include discussion on the current turmoil in Indonesia and recent nuclear testing in South Asia.
The Hon. Y.A.B. Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, will deliver the keynote address.
