Eleven students from the Kennedy School traveled to Washington, D.C., to brief Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin on their proposed plan for Social Security reform. The students' briefing of the Secretary was the culmination of the Kennedy School's Spring Exercise on Social Security Reform. In the exercise, 200 students and their faculty members took a break from regular classes to work together on a public policy issue. The task was to prepare and deliver a briefing book on different aspects of the Social Security debate to the administration.
