Three Games, Three Wins for Cupp '98; Named Ivy
League Pitcher of the Week
Tasha Cupp, a senior pitcher on the softball team, has been named the
Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 12.
Cupp pitched 20.2 innings and recorded three wins last week. In 4.2 innings
of work against Brown on Saturday, the senior fireballer held the Bears
to three hits and no runs. In a complete game 5-0 shutout over Boston University
on Monday, Cupp turned in a team season-high 12 strikeouts and allowed no
runs and only three hits.
One of the Ivy League's most dominating pitchers, Cupp holds both the
single-season and career strikeout record. Last season, she set the single-season
mark with 182 strikeouts, and also broke the career record of 239. She currently
has 427 strikeouts.
A three-time Second Team All Ivy League selection, Cupp has a record
of 10-3 on the season with a 2.39 ERA. In 94.1 innings of work this year,
Cupp has fanned 84 batters, and has kept her opponents to an .207 batting
average.
Last season, Harvard finished with a 32-19-1 record, the most wins in
the history of the program, placed second in the Ivy League, and was runner-up
in the ECAC Tournament.
