Abeles Named Ivy League Player of the Week

Sophomore shortstop Deborah Abeles was named Ivy League Player of the Week earlier this month.

In four games, Abeles hit 8 for 14 for a .571 batting average, which included three doubles, a triple, and a home run. She also knocked in three runs and scored three times as well.

On Sunday, in the second game of a doubleheader against Rutgers, Abeles hit her sixth home run of the year, a solo shot to center field in the fifth inning. That round-tripper tied the Harvard single-season record for home runs with six. She is also just one shy of tying the Harvard career record for home runs, which is 10.

Last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Abeles is on a tear this season. She is currently hitting .405, with seven

doubles, four triples, and 26 RBIs. She is the only Crimson player to have started in each of the team's 29 games.

The Crimson currently owns a 13-16 record, but has played some of the country's best teams. Harvard has been competitive in games against Fresno State, Stanford, San Jose State, and the University of Missouri. While on its spring break trip to California, the Crimson had impressive victories over Central Michigan, Kansas, Ohio State, and UC-Davis.

Last season, Harvard finished with a 32-19-1 record, the most wins in the history of the program, placed second in the Ivy League, and was runner-up in the ECAC Tournament.
