HLS Hosts 5th Annual Public Interest Auction
The Law School's fifth annual Student Public Interest Auction is fast
approaching. Sponsored by the Law School's Class of 2000 and the Office
of Public Interest Advising, the event will take place on Thursday, April
16, at Austin Hall, 1515 Mass. Ave., Cambridge.
Hundreds of items, including vacation packages, tickets to sporting and
theater events, legal memorabilia, and other unique items and services will
go on the auction block. The event will include both a silent auction and
live bidding, with Internet bidding for the first time.
The purpose of the auction is to raise money for students' public interest
work. Auction proceeds will benefit Law School students who take volunteer
or low-paying public interest jobs during the upcoming summer.
Last year, the auction raised more than $55,000 for students working
for children's and civil rights organizations, district attorneys, public
defenders, and other government agencies and nonprofit organizations. More
than 200 students took public interest summer jobs, and the number of Law
School students accepting public interest work after graduation has increaded
steadily since 1991.
The silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the live auction
at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
