Divinity School To Host Forum on Church-based Community
Development
The Divinity School will host a public forum on faith-based
community development on Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. in the Braun Room
in Andover Hall, 45 Francis Ave., Cambridge.
The forum also will introduce the Summer Leadership Institute, a new
continuing education program on churches, economic development, and neighborhood
rebuilding for clergy and lay leaders, which will be held June 15-26 at
the Divinity School and is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Values
in Public Life.
The forum will feature two national leaders in urban revitilization and
church-based neighborhood development: the Rev. Charles G. Adams, senior
pastor at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church in Detroit, and the Rev. Floyd
H. Flake, pastor at Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica,
N.Y., and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's
Sixth Congressional District (Queens).
Other speakers will include Sylvia Johnson, assistant director of the
Hyams Foundation in Boston; Ronald F. Thiemann, Dean of the Divinity School;
Preston N. Williams, professor of theology at the Divinity School and director
of the Summer Leadership Institute; and D. Pulane Evans, program coordinator
for the Institute.
