Radcliffe Externship program to take place over spring break
For many students, spring break means soaking up some sun in a warm climate.
For approximately 66 undergraduate women at Harvard and Radcliffe, spring
break will mean participating in the Externship Program, a unique opportunity
to explore career and lifestyle choices firsthand. Now in its 20th year,
the Externship Program at Radcliffe College matches young women with alumnae
sponsors. The program runs from March 22-29.
"What sets this program apart from other externship programs is
the living arrangements," said Susan Arnott, the program coordinator.
"Our Radcliffe alumnae open their homes to their externs. This week
of 'shadowing' gives students an overview of sponsors' professional and
personal lives. Students see the rewards and pitfalls of a particular profession
firsthand." The sponsors' professions include attorney, physician,
filmmaker, journalist, educator, artist, judge, and research scientist.
The Externship Program is part of the Radcliffe Office of Undergraduate
Programs.

ART's student-discount program given boost
The American Repertory Theatre has received a gift of $50,000 from PaineWebber
in support of the Theatre's student discount programs.
Artistic Director Robert Brustein said, "The Theatre has always
been committed to making its work accessible to as broad an audience as
possible, particularly to the many young people in this community. We are
thrilled by this important contribution."
In other news, the ART will present selections from three repertory productions
at the Chekhov International Theatre Festival to be held in Moscow on March
26. The ART will be the first American company to perform at the festival,
the first American company to perform at the historic Chekhov Moscow Art
Theatre, and the first company to participate with a repertory of three
works.
