University Community Invited to Buy Daffodils To Aid the Fight Against Cancer
More than 100 representatives are busy around the University accepting orders for bouquets of daffodils as part of the American Cancer Society's annual drive, Daffodil Day. February is order month for Daffodil Day; the flowers will be delivered March 24, the first week of spring. The University's participation in the "Daffodil Days" fundraiser was organized in 1988 by Rita Corkery, a cancer survivor and a staff member of the University's Office of Government and Community Affairs. Sales that year were $2,500; last year's sales topped $23,000. Since Corkery's retirement, the Office has continued to coordinate the drive. Over the past 10 years, through the efforts of many people, the University has collected more than $169,500 for cancer research. To order bouquets of daffodils -- $5 for a bouquet of 10 flowers -- see your department or office representative, or mail or hand-deliver orders and checks (payable to the American Cancer Society) no later than Friday, March 6, to: Carole Lee, Office of Government and Community Affairs, 2 Garden St. Cambridge, MA 02138.
