Feagin Moving to Michigan
Susan K. Feagin, director of University Development, has been named vice president for development by the University of Michigan's Board of Regents, effective May 4. Feagin's fundraising career has included leading campaigns at both Harvard and at Columbia University, her alma mater. As director of development, she has been responsible for coordinating the University's fundraising activities, including the $2.1 billion campaign. She previously served as associate dean for development in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and associate director of University development for planning and external relations. President Neil L. Rudenstine said, "She has been a friend, colleague, and superb professional at Harvard since 1975, and she has been an exceptional leader in our current campaign. . . . I know she will do an outstanding job at Michigan, and I join a great many others in wishing her the very best in her new role." Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Jeremy R. Knowles added, "Susan has given so much to Harvard: wisdom, spirit, confidence, and unmatched skill. She has guided our campaign all the way from its earliest plans to today's cheerful state. We shall miss her very much. I hope Michigan knows how fortunate they are." "Susan has been an outstanding leader for Harvard. She played a key role in the planning and successful execution of the largest fundraising campaign in the history of higher education," said Thomas Reardon, vice president of alumni affairs and development. "Her vision, judgment, and dedication will be sorely missed. She has been a wonderful colleague and gifted leader." About her new position, Feagin said, "I am privileged to be able to work for a third great research university. The University of Michigan has always led public universities in its recognition of the role of private giving. "It is not easy to leave great Harvard friends and colleagues but I am confident that the campaign is fully staffed with effective and committed individuals who will continue to do a wonderful job for the University."
