  College Mourns Death of Sophomore

Friends were saddened to learn of the death of Harvard College sophomore Annelle Fitzpatrick from an apparent suicide on Jan. 2 in New York City.

Fitzpatrick, of Leverett House and New York City, was a member of the varsity lacrosse team. The 19-year-old had taken a voluntary leave of absence from the College in November.

"Annelle will very much be missed," said Judith Murciano-Goroff, Allston Burr Senior Tutor in Leverett House. "In a brief time, she transformed the lives of many people who cared about her and were touched by her in our community. She will always be with us."

A funeral took place in Pennsylvania on Jan. 5, and a memorial service was held in Cambridge on Jan. 8.

Professional staff from the Bureau of Study Counsel have provided support to Leverett House residents and to Fitzpatrick's teammates. In addition, Leverett House has begun a regular grief and bereavement group for friends of Fitzpatrick, as well as for others experiencing grief. It is run by two resident tutors in the House.
