Bunting Fellow to speak on Latin American urban youth

The sorrow, disorder, and violence in which many Latin American urban youth live is the subject of a talk by a Bunting Institute Fellow next week.

Deborah Levenson-Estrada will speak on "Dreams and Failures of Youth and Modernity in Guatemala City, 1890-1990" at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Bunting Institute, 34 Concord Ave.

Levenson-Estrada's work concerns the future of a world in which increasing numbers of people live in cities, where violence is the mediator of daily social relations.

Levenson-Estrada, an associate professor of Latin American history at Boston College, is the author of Trade Unionists Against Terror, Guatemala City, 1954-1985 (University of North Carolina, 1994).
