  Hofer Book Collecting Prize Invites Applicants for 1998 Competition

The Philip Hofer Collecting Prize (approximately $2,000) will be awarded in 1998 to a student Ñ undergraduate or graduate Ñ whose collection of books or works of art best exemplifies the traditions of breadth, coherence, and imagination exemplified by Philip Hofer, founder and first curator of the Department of Printing and Graphic Arts in the Houghton Library, and secretary of the Fogg Art Museum.

The rules for this prize, established by Melvin R. Seiden Õ52, LLB Õ55, in memory of Philip Hofer, are available from House Masters, Senior Tutors, House Librarians, Freshman Deans, the Curator of Printing and Graphic Arts in the Houghton Library, the Librarian of the Fine Arts Library, and the Chairman of the Fine Arts Department. Each contestant must announce his or her candidacy in writing to Anne Anninger, Philip Hofer Curator of Printing and Graphic Arts in the Houghton Library, on or before Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, stating the scope and subject of the collection. Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, March 31, 1998.
