Faculty Council
The Faculty Council, at its third meeting of the year, discussed a proposal for a new title of "research professor." A suggestion has been made that such a title might be made available, under certain circumstances, as an alternative to the title of "professor emeritus," for the first five years after retirement. The Council also considered a proposed change in the name of the Fine Arts Department to "Department of History of Art and Architecture." Professors Ioli Kalavrezou (chair), Suzanne Blier, Neil Levine, Gulru Necipoglu, and Irene Winter, all of the Fine Arts Department, were present for the discussion. Finally, the Council returned to its discussion of the Report of the FAS Committee on Resources, "Financial Relations Between FAS and the Central Administration." The agenda for the Oct. 21 Faculty Meeting will include discussion of the proposed new name for the Fine Arts Department, a report on the first implementation of the Faculty's new summa legislation, and the Resources Committee Report. The Council next meets on Oct. 29.
