Belfer Center Director Allison To Speak at M.I.T.

Graham Allison, director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Kennedy School of Government, will speak at the annual Catherine N. Stratton lecture on critical issues at the M.I.T. Women's League on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Allison, the former assistant secretary of defense for policy toward the former Soviet Union, will describe the importance of assisting Russia in the control and destruction of its weapons and weapons-usable materials.

Medical School Dean To Talk on Diversity

Joseph B. Martin, Dean of the Medical School, will present his views on diversity in the Harvard medical community at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Carl W. Walter Amphitheater, 260 Longwood Ave. The talk is sponsored by the Advisory Committee on Diversity/Office of Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity at the Medical School.

Business School's Porter receives economics award

Michael E. Porter, the C. Roland Christensen Professor of Business Administration at the Business School, received the Adam Smith Award of the National Association of Business Economists (NABE) last month "in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the business economics profession." Previous award winners include distinguished economists such as Nobel laureates Milton Friedman, Gary Becker, James Tobin, and Robert Solow. Founded in 1959, NABE is the largest professional association of business economists in the United States.

Medical Researcher wins UNCF/Merck grant

Research Fellow in Medicine Alexzander Asea has been awarded a grant from UNCF/Merck Pharmaceuticals Co. for work in pulmonary immunology. Asea, who is affiliated with Schepens Eye Research Institute as well as Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Medical School, will receive $55,000 for one year and will use the money to continue his project, "Role of Natural Killer Antigen Positive Cells in Immune Regulation."
