Three Die in Canoeing Accident
Edward J. Hogan, 46, secretary in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Yelena (Olena) Lisovich, 41, a former Widener Library and Ukrainian Research Institute (URI) staff member; and her son, Konstantin, 9, died over the weekend as the result of a canoeing accident on Moosehead Lake in Rockwood, Maine. They died of hypothermia late Friday after their canoe, which had been overloaded, capsized. Hogan worked for Robert Westervelt, Gordon McKay Professor of Applied Physics, and ran a small publishing house, Zephyr Press, which specialized in Russian works. Lisovich formerly worked for the Slavic Division at Widener Library processing Ukrainian materials, and for the URI. A memorial service for Hogan will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10, at the First Congregational Church of Somerville, 95 College Ave. A memorial service for Lisovich, her son, and Hogan is being planned by the Institute.
