  Faculty Council

The Faculty Council, at its second meeting of the year, met with members of the Faculty's Standing Committee on the Status of Women and with members of the Resources Committee.

Professor Susan Pedersen (History), chair, and professors Marjorie Garber (English), Howard Georgi (Physics), and Daniel Schachter (Psychology) discussed with the Council the Committee's recent report, Women in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Part II, The Social Sciences. The Committee's Report will be distributed to the Faculty.

Professors Dale Jorgenson (Economics), Gary King (Government), and Mark Kishlansky (History) discussed with the Council the recent report of the Resources Committee, Financial Relations between FAS and the Central Administration. The Resources Committee report will be on the agenda for discussion at the October Faculty Meeting.

The Council also heard a brief report from Dean William Todd (Undergraduate Education and Slavic Languages and Literatures) on the work of the Educational Policy Committee on the preliminary reports about (1) the language requirement and (2) the total number of undergraduate requirements, as voted by the Faculty on May 20, l997.

The Council reviewed the proposed agenda for the Oct. 21 Faculty Meeting. The preliminary docket deadline for that meeting is 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6.
