  Merrill Fellows Appointed for '97-98

A Presbyterian minister from Malawi, a rabbi from Brooklyn, and the Dean of the National Cathedral are among the eight clergy who have been named Charles E. Merrill Fellows at the Divinity School for 1997-98.

During the fall term, the new Merrill Fellows will be the Rev. Humphrey Frackson Zgambo, pastor of the Mangochi Presbyterian Church in Malawi in central Africa; the Rev. Mary Sue Evers, pastor of Hubbard United Church of Christ and Aurora Presbyterian Church in Aurora, Ore.; the Rev. Dale Krueger, pastor of Immanuel Church in Kalamazoo, Mich.; and the Rev. Dennis P. Murphy, priest in the

diocese of Richmond, Va., and former Catholic chaplain at Yale

University.

In the spring, the Merrill Fellows will be the Very Rev. Nathan D. Baxter, Dean of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; the Rev. Charles W. Mays, pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles, Wash.; the Rev. Wendy McAninch-Ruenzi, MDiv '82, campus minister at Southern Oregon State College in Ashland, Ore.; and Rabbi Gerald I. Weidner, rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Established in 1964, the Merrill Fellows Program enables four clergy to come to the Divinity School each term to be in residence as full-time students for a sabbatical semester. Fellows attend courses and lectures, read and study in a university setting, and participate in a weekly colloquium.
