KSG and PoliticsNow Classroom To Work on Web-based Case Study

The Kennedy School of Government and PoliticsNow Classroom announced they have joined forces on the new edition of the Kennedy School's popular "Campaign Õ96: Third Party Time?" Web-based case study (http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/third-party/). The collaboration will link PoliticsNow Classroom, a Web site designed to be an integral part of college-level introductory American political science courses, with the Kennedy School's Case Program, the world's largest producer and repository of case studies designed for teaching about how government works and how public policy is made.

The new edition of "Third Party Time?," available exclusively on the Kennedy School of Government and PoliticsNow Classroom Web sites, provides users with access to original interviews, news articles, and other information from a wide variety of sources, including PoliticsNow's Campaign Õ96 coverage. Featured resources include articles from the National Journal, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and The Hotline, plus the Almanac of American Politics and selected polling and campaign finance materials from PoliticsNow.

"Third Party Time?" puts a student in the role of campaign manager for a minor party or independent candidate considering a presidential bid in the Õ96 elections. The program has been used at the Kennedy School as well as at more than four dozen undergraduate and graduate colleges around the country. The new, updated edition will be available on the Kennedy School Web site on May 15.

"The Kennedy School is excited about this collaboration and the help it provides in bringing the traditional Harvard case study into a new technological arena," observed Howard Husock, director of the Kennedy School's Case Program.

"The alliance between PoliticsNow Classroom and the Kennedy School adds significant value to each of our sites," said PoliticsNow Classroom Editor Chris Long. "This collaboration also further demonstrates the Internet's tremendous potential as an educational medium."

"Third Party Time?" is one of several new media case studies developed by the Kennedy School's Case Program, which distributes over 1,400 cases about the public and nonprofit sectors worldwide. All Kennedy School cases are classroom-tested, rigorously researched, and based on original interviews. PoliticsNow Classroom is a partnership of The Washington Post, National Journal and ABC News Ñ along with Houghton Mifflin Co., a leading publisher of college-level political science textbooks.
