  Faculty Council Discusses the Core Review

The Faculty Council, at its fifteenth meeting of the year, met yesterday with Professor Sidney Verba (Government), Chair of the Core Review Committee, and Benedict Gross (Mathematics), a member of the committee, to continue its discussion of the tentative recommendations in the Committee's "Working Paper."

The Council also discussed with Dean Christoph Wolff (Music), Professor Judith Frommer (Romance Languages), Dean Garth McCavana (Student Affairs), and Arlene Becella (Registrar), Sat/Unsat, a proposal to allow graduate students, under certain circumstances, to take language courses on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis. Additionally, Deans Michael Shinagel and Mary Higgins (Continuing Education) met with the Council to discuss the courses proposed for University Extension for l997-98.

Finally, the Council reviewed the April 8 Faculty Meeting and the items remaining on the agenda for both the Faculty and Faculty Council for the balance of the year.

The deadline for the return of ballots in the Faculty Council election is April 23 at 5 p.m. in University Hall 1. The Council next meets on April 30.
