  Women's Basketball Faces North Carolina

The Ivy League champion Harvard women's basketball team (20-6, 14-0 Ivy) will make its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and will face the University of North Carolina (27-2, 15-1 ACC) on Friday, March 14, at approximately 8 p.m. The game will be played at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, N.C., and will be aired live on WHRB-FM (95.3).

Harvard is seeded No. 16 in the East region, while North Carolina, the Atlantic Coast Conference champion, is the top seed. The winner will advance to the second round and oppose the victor of the Michigan State-Portland contest on Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m.

Harvard is the lone Massachusetts school to be playing in this

year's tournament. The Crimson earned the Ivy League's automatic berth to the NCAAs by winning the regular season League championship and became the first team in League history to go undefeated. Harvard is led by junior forward Allison Feaster, the Ivy League Player of the Year who is among the nation's leaders in scoring (21.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.8). Other standouts for the Crimson include senior co-captains Jessica Gelman (13.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.7 assists) and Kelly Black (9.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg).

Last year, the Crimson made its first-ever tournament appearance, falling to Vanderbilt, 100-83.

Harvard is coached by Kathy Delaney-Smith, who is in her 15th

season at the helm of the program. Delaney-Smith, who owns a 214-274 career record, was named the Ivy League's 1996-97 Coach of the Year.
