Biagioli and Galison to Host Conference

Mario Biagioli, professor of the history of science, and Peter Galison, Mallinckrodt Professor of the History of Science and of Physics, will host an international conference focusing on specific issues and historical examples of scientific authorship on March 7-9 at Longfellow Hall. The keynote speaker will be the French historian Roger Chartier, who will speak on "Authorship Between Science and Literature." Overall, the speakers at the conference will analyze patterns of change of scientific authorship through different institutional structures, disciplinary practices, genres of scientific literature, political contexts, and techniques of communication as well as different scales of research programs and organization of labor and responsibilities. Boutin Awarded Seed Grant

Instructor in radiology Robert Boutin was recently awarded a Seed Grant Award by the Radiological Society of North America Research and Education Fund. He is studying "Clinical MR Imaging of Early Cartilage Degradation."

The intention of the Seed Grant Program is to enable young investigators to do the preliminary studies often necessary prior to the application for major government, foundation, or corporate funding. The one-year awards are for up to $20,000.

Medical Faculty Win Awards for Eye Research

Jarema Malicki, of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and assistant professor at the Medical School, has been granted a $160,000 Career Development Award for eye research by Research to Prevent Blindness Inc. The support is provided over a four-year period.

Evan Dreyer, director of the Glaucoma Service at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and assistant professor at the Medical School, has been granted a $50,000 Lew R. Wasserman Merit Award by Research to Prevent Blindness Inc.
