Traffic To Be Detoured on Broadway For Two Weeks Due to Construction

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 28, the city of Cambridge has authorized the closing of a westbound portion of Broadway, from Ware Street to Quincy Street. The purpose of the closure is to accelerate the construction of a new sanitary sewer from Quincy Street to Ware Street. Detours will be in effect for about two weeks

The contractor's work will proceed with the following daytime detours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.):

* Broadway, westbound traffic (which normally turns right onto Quincy Street), will be detoured to Cambridge Street via Prescott Street.

* Broadway, westbound traffic (which normally turns left onto Quincy Street), will be detoured to Harvard Street via Ware Street. The MBTA will post the Quincy Street bus stops for relocated the #69 bus stops. Shuttle Services has its own work-around plan.

There is no change to Broadway's eastbound traffic (from the underpass). This traffic will continue to make the right turn onto Quincy Street and continue through Quincy Square, including the Mass. Ave. Bus and the LMA Shuttle.

By 4 p.m. each day the street will be plated and traffic is expected to be returned to normal.

The city's resident engineer has stated that traffic police will make provisions for vehicles to enter the loading areas at the Fogg Museum and at the Prescott Street driveway to 1730 Cambridge St. (UIS). Access to the Sackler Museum may be blocked during certain days, however, access from Cambridge Street should result in minimal impact.

No sidewalk closings are anticipated.
