University and HUCTW Release Joint Statement

The following statement was released late Wednesday afternoon.

The University and the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers (HUCTW) have reached agreement on an extension of the current collective bargaining agreement through June 30, 1999. The terms of the new agreement will provide for salary increases and the continuation of existing policies and programs. In addition, the University and HUCTW reached agreement on the issue of the University's contributions to health and dental premiums for part-time, benefits-eligible, HUCTW-represented employees.

The University has agreed to delay implementation of the scheduled contribution changes to the health and dental premiums for HUCTW-represented employees the balance of calendar year 1997 while the issue of benefits for all part-time workers is being reviewed by both the University Benefits Committee and the Joint Benefits Committee. The HUCTW has agreed to work jointly with the University in making improvements to the administration of the Short-Term Disability Plan to offset the costs of delaying the implementation for this calendar year.

Both the University and HUCTW have described this agreement as a major step toward fostering a true spirit of collaboration while maintaining an appropriate balance of fairness and fiscal responsibility. The specific details of the agreement will be presented to the HUCTW membership for ratification over the next few weeks.
