Actor Jack Lemmon Honored by Glee Club, Hasty Pudding
For actor Jack Lemmon '47 and those who have seen him on stage and screen,
the memories are alive and well.
Lemmon was among five honorees celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors
program on Sunday, Dec. 8, in Washington, D.C. After an introduction by
actor Kenneth Branagh, the Harvard Glee Club and members of the Hasty Pudding
Theatricals brought Lemmon back to his undergraduate days in Cambridge.
Performing football songs, an arrangement of George Gershwin's "Love
is Here to Stay" by Harvard mathematics professor Noam Elkies, and
"Fair Harvard," the Glee Club followed the Pudding's recollection
of Lemmon's early stage and film years.
Among those present to honor Lemmon were President Clinton and Hillary
Rodham Clinton, Vice President Gore and Tipper Gore, actor Robert Duvall,
actress Goldie Hawn, musician Wynton Marsalis, and Pete Seeger.
The program, hosted by Walter Cronkite, will be aired nationally on Thursday,
Dec. 26, from 9 to 11 p.m. on CBS.
