Graduate Council's Fun Run to Benefit Disability-Related Project

The Harvard Graduate Council will sponsor the third annual Fun Run, a 1.8-mile run -- costumes optional -- through Cambridge to benefit Outdoor Explorations, a nonprofit organization that works with individuals with disabilities in the Greater Boston community. The Fun Run will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m.

Since 1991, Outdoor Explorations has organized environmental service projects, disability training, and adventure trips for hundreds of people with various cognitive and physical disabilities. Through these shared experiences, individuals can learn to transform negative perceptions of disability into positive examples of leadership and activism.

Proceeds from the run will go to support Access in Action, a newly created program that will prepare volunteers to organize and lead 50 adaptive outdoors programs at three state parks this upcoming year.

All runners will receive a free T-shirt and an invitation to the post-race party. Students, faculty, and staff from each of the University's graduate schools are all welcome to participate. Runners should sign in at the Business School between 10 and 10:45 a.m. on the day of the race. Advance registration at each graduate school is $10; race-day registration is $12. Any other donations are also welcome.

Students can also get involved with Outdoor Explorations by participating in its various local projects and activities, such as the volunteer training program of Access in Action, medical and safety training workshops, etc.

For more information, please contact Harvard Graduate Council representatives at each graduate school.
