Maxine Hong Kingston to speak at Science Center

The Departments of Women's Studies and English and American Literature and Language are presenting a talk Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., by writer Maxine Hong Kingston titled "China Stockton Berkeley Hawaii Vietnam." Kingston will discuss her widely aclaimed novels The Woman Warrier, China Men, and Tripmaster Monkey, as well as her dramatic adaptation of The Woman Warrior into a play. Admission to the event, which takes place in Room C of the Science Center, is free. For more information, call 495-9199.

President Rudenstine to hold office hours for students

President Neil L. Rudenstine will hold office hours for students from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10.

Office hours are held in Massachusetts Hall on a first-come, first-served basis. The hours are open to all students at the University.

Biomedical equipment exhibit to take place next week

A Biomedical Research Equipment and Supplies Exhibit will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Countway Plaza Courtyard.

The event, sponsored by Harvard Medical School Campus Services Administration and the Procurement Department, features VWRSP, Harvard's laboratory supply vendor partner, and 100 additional biomedical suppliers displaying their latest wares to lab personnel, researchers, and purchasing agents.

Admission is free with a University, hospital, or corporate ID.

Faculty Club features eclectic fall dinner menus

The Faculty Club will once again offer its popular, autumn-evening prix fixe menus. From Oct. 7 to 25, "A Taste of the Wild" is available, and includes fig-stuffed quail, duck confit, wild mushroom soup, wild boar, and a salad of quince. From Nov. 4 to 22, "A Taste of New England" is available, including cod and white bean chowder, New England fry of oysters and littlenecks, halibut with mussels, tuna carpaccio, and apple-cranberry nut tart. "A Taste of the Club" is available all season, and includes roast duck breast, fig and apple compote, baby Harvard beets, and Mediterranean black olive, orange and onion salad.
