Radcliffe Appoints Honorary Visiting Scholars to Schlesinger
A collection of biographies about women as diverse as Katharine Hepburn, Margaret Mead, and Babe Didrikson Zaharias; an examination of Betty Friedan and modern American feminism; and a history of marriage and United States public policy are three of the topics that will be explored by 1996-97 Schlesinger Library honorary visiting scholars at Radcliffe College next year. The scholars will utilize the holdings of the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America to conduct their research. The scholars and their projects are: Nancy Cott, Yale University (spring semester), "A History of Marriage as/in U.S. Public Policy"; Daniel Horowitz, Smith College, "Betty Friedan and the Origins of Modern American Feminism"; Helen Horowitz, Smith College, "Embodied Knowledge"; Yoshiko Tomishima, Tokyo Metropolitan University, "Gender-Race Dyad in the Age of Charlotte Perkins Gilman"; and Susan Ware, Independent Scholar, "Declarations of Independence: A Collective Biography of Dorothy Thompson, Margaret Mead, Katharine Hepburn, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, and Marian Anderson." The next application deadline for appointments as visiting scholars at the library is Feb. 15, 1997.
