Latin American Studies Names Certificate Winners
The Committee on Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS) of the Faculty
of Arts and Sciences awards two certificates in Latin American studies,
one for Harvard College students, and the other for students in the Graduate
School of Arts and Sciences.
Undergraduate students who fulfill specific course requirements (six half
courses) and present an honors thesis on a topic relating to Latin America
may apply for the Certificate in Latin American Studies. The Certificate
in Latin American Studies for Ph.D. recipients is earned by students engaged
in a Ph.D. program in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences who write a dissertatation
that bears on one or more of the Spanish-American countries or Brazil.
The 1996 undergraduate recipients are:
Noel Catharine Allen, Department of Romance Languages; Margaret
Boyer, Department of History and Literature; Liz Bucar, Department
of Government; Ryan Buchholz, Department of Latin American Studies;
Peter Cahn, Department of Anthropology; Andrea Flamenco, Department
of Social Studies; O. Andrew Fraser Wilson, Department of History
and Literature; Olivia Gentile, Department of Social Studies; Samuel
Martland, Department of History and Literature; Antonio Rodriguez,
Department of Social Studies; Nicole Souffront, Department of History
and Literature; Noelle Van Camp, Department of History and Literature;
and Claret Vargas, Department of Social Studies.
The 1996 Ph.D. student recipients are:
Javier Corrales, Department of Government; and Rene Gonzalez,
Department of Biology.
