W.E.B. Du Bois Graduate Society holds spring conference The W.E.B.
Du Bois Graduate Society, with the cosponsorship of the Graduate School
of Arts and Sciences; the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race
Relations; Dudley House, the Graduate Student Center; the Graduate Student
Council; and the Women's Law Association of Harvard Law School, will hold
its second annual Spring Conference on Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 a.m.
to 4 p.m., at Dudley House.
"Race as a Tool: Exploring the Intersection of Politics and Culture,"
an interdisciplinary conference, will feature keynote addresses by: Christopher
Edley Jr., professor, Harvard Law School, and former special counsel
to President Clinton and director of the White House Review of Affirmative
Action; and Bhikhu Parekh, professor of political theory, University of
Hull, United Kingdom. Presentations on affirmative action policies, environmental
prejudice, the social construction of race, and Native American identity,
among other topics, will be given by graduate students and professionals.
The conference is free and all are welcome to attend. For more information,

Spring bird walks to take place at Mount Auburn Cemetery
Bird walks, sponsored by Harvard Health and Fitness, will take place at
Mount Auburn Cemetery this spring on the following dates: April 17, 5:30
p.m.; April 24, 7 a.m.; May 1, 5:30 p.m.; May 8, 7 a.m.; and May 15, 7 a.m.
Meet at the main gate. Wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars. The
walks are cancelled if there is more than a light drizzle.
Office hours for students to be held by Provost Carnesale
Provost Albert Carnesale will hold office hours for students in his
Massachusetts Hall office on Monday, April 15, from 4 to 5 p.m.
Office hours are held on a first-come, first-served basis.
Development director Easton to be honored at ceremony
After 29 years of service to the University, C. Cabot Easton, director
of development for the Graduate School of Design from 1967 to 1970, and
director of major gifts in The Campaign for Harvard Law School from 1988
to 1995, the Law School will honor "Cab" tonight with a special
dinner and ceremony. At the Law School, Easton was responsible for the cultivation
and solicitation of many significant Campaign gifts.
Undergraduate thesis fellowships to be offered by religions center
The Center for the Study of World Religions Undergraduate Thesis Fellowship
deadline is April 15. Fellows are chosen for the excellence of their proposed
research in religion and meet regularly so they can share their research
with each other. Juniors whose senior thesis research will focus primarily
on the study of religious phenomena may apply. The award consists of a $1,200
