Hoyte Named to Board of Trust for Public Land

James S. Hoyte, assistant to the President/associate vice president and lecturer on environmental science and public policy, has been named to the board of directors of the San Francisco-based Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national nonprofit land conservation organization.

Hoyte, a longtime environmental policymaker, teaches a seminar on environmental justice and leads a study group on the politics of affirmative action and race preferences. Hoyte served as the Massachusetts Secretary of Environmental Affairs from 1983 to 1988.

"I know well TPL's potential for preserving important natural landscapes," said Hoyte, "and for improving the quality of life for urban, suburban, and rural communities throughout the nation.

Hoyte is co-founder and president of the Environmental Diversity Forum and serves on the boards of numerous environmental and civic organizations. He recieved his A.B. from Harvard College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.

The Trust for Public Land conserves land for people, working nationwide to protect open space as parks, gardens, recreation areas, and wilderness. Since 1972, the Trust has protected more than 800,000 acres of land for public use. The Trust for Public Land's goal is to ensure livable communities and a healthy environment for generations to come.
