AIDS Institute Invites Applications for AIDS Training
Program
The Harvard AIDS Institute is currently accepting applications for its summer
AIDS training program for minority medical students. Established in 1993,
the U.S. Medical Students' AIDS Training Program enables medical students
from underrepresented groups to study with a mentor and to conduct AIDS-related
research at Harvard for six to eight weeks during the summer. Each year,
the Harvard AIDS Institute sponsors two to four fellows through this program
as part of an effort to encourage medical students to conduct HIV research
and to study the impact of AIDS on communities of color.
Through exposure to clinical settings at Harvard-affiliated institutions,
weekly seminars, readings, discussions, and a final paper and presentation,
the program fosters students' interests in AIDS research and care. In the
past, fellows have participated in projects as varied as AIDS vaccine development
research, analysis of AIDS prevention programs among Native Americans, and
a study on viral phenotypes in people with HIV.
All fellows receive stipends to cover room and board, travel, and other
expenses. For more information about the program and application procedures,
contact the Institute at 495-0478. The application deadline for this summer's
program is March 15.
